La Tirana is a dance play, inspired by Goya’s work, a risky unusual bet that brilliantly expresses María Pagés’s personal concept of flamenco as a form of art with no boundaries. She can handle every single flamenco element and integrate them all with such different kinds of music as blues, opera, jazz, classical music, or melodical songs.

The action takes place at the Prado Museum, where a young visitor manages to spend the night in order to declare his love for the famous Duchess that Goya portrayed in his world-known painting. His love is so intense that painting comes to life and the Maja leaves her prison to dance with the young man all night long. Little did the lovers know that Goya’s spirit, like the spirits of all painters haunting the museums to watch over their muses, is keeping a watchful eye on them...
